A mat and a target do different jobs
A putting mat gives you a surface and lane; the Premium Pressure Putt Trainer adds a separate target at the end of that lane. PuttOUT describes a 4.25-inch base, a parabolic ramp that returns balls, and a pop-down micro-target for a more demanding hold. Those are two different cues in one foldable target. Buy it if you want repeatable, target-focused reps on a surface you already own, or want a small target you can carry to a permitted practice green. Skip it if your mat already has a useful cup or stop target, or if your priority is only start-line practice. The return and hold are the maker's design intent, not measurements showing how a real cup or green behaves.
Check fit on your own surface
Compare the target's base footprint with the flat, usable width of your mat before ordering. Once you have it, check whether it rocks or shifts on that surface. The maker describes a spiked base for mat and putting-green use, but that does not verify every turf pile, seam, slope or finish. Leave the return path clear and follow facility rules; do not damage a green. The Slim Mat is a separate surface listed at 240 by 25 cm, with a bag and storage cylinder but no target. A shared brand name is not a fit guarantee, especially if an existing raised cup obstructs placement.
If you still need a suitable lane, compare footprint and storage in our portable putting mat guide before choosing a target.
Treat returns as practice feedback
Do not read a returned ball or a missed hold as a verdict on how a putt would finish on a course. The ramp and micro-target are intended to make outcomes visible in a small practice lane; they do not measure real-green roll. Surface speed, slope, distance and the actual cup can all differ between home practice and today's green. A held ball is not proof of an on-course make or future score change, and a miss alone cannot diagnose aim, face, pace or setup. Use the target to repeat the same putt and observe what happened. For course pace, practice on the course's actual putting surface when you can and recheck as conditions change.
If your question is where the ball starts rather than where it stops, our putting gate guide explains that separate practice choice.
Try this ten-ball example
This is an editorial practice example, not a tested or validated skill score. Pick one starting point, one distance, one aim point and a stable surface. Roll ten balls without moving the target or changing the setup. For each, record one outcome: held in the micro-target; returned by the ramp but not held; short; or wide/off the target. If a roll is both short and off line, note both but count it once under the clearest result. Keep the tally descriptive, not a grade. Then repeat the exact block later, or change one factor — such as aiming at a different one of the trainer's three dots — and start a new tally. PuttOUT's aim-points drill also varies among those dots; this example adds fixed start conditions and a simple record, not a claim about improvement.
Buy the standalone target — or skip it
The checked retailer option is Premium Stone/Single, sold by PuttOUT: one trainer, not a mat bundle. Choose it if you value a compact physical endpoint for the lane you already use. Skip it if you need a complete practice lane, cannot get a stable, non-damaging fit, or already have a target that serves your routine. A free alternative is a flat, removable marker as an aim point and a separate stop zone on your existing surface. That can organize a roll, but it does not reproduce the ramp return or micro-target hold.
Does the Pressure Putt Trainer come with a mat?
No. The checked Stone/Single option is the standalone target; the Slim Mat is listed separately with its bag and storage cylinder.
Do returns show how far a putt would roll past a real hole?
Only as the maker's design cue. The trainer does not measure real-green roll or calibrate pace for today's course.
What can I try before buying?
Use a flat, non-damaging marker as an aim point and choose a stop zone on your existing surface. It is not equivalent to the ramp or micro-target.
